ABOUT ME

A good book to read and study poetry: Creating Poetry by John Drury, Associate Professor of English at the University of Cincinnati where he teaches creative writing and poetry.

Regarding functions of Rhyme (p.58, from the above book): Rhyme is invaluable as (a) an audible echo or resonance; (b) an organizing device, for "zoning your poems; (c) a technique for discovering fresh, surprising words that might not occur to you without the pressure of rhyming; (d) a link to poetic tradition.

I use very often (or even half the time) singable words and rhymes, because of my background as a composer and songwriter, and most often you can sing my poems easily. Often this kind of word building seems easier than off sentence and no rhyming writing, but it is actually not the case.
