Sideways World

She had a face he could never forget
When had it ever been other
Did not look just like her mother
She sometimes spoke the Chinese alphabet
But her language was another,

Once in a sideways world that never was
With a glance sidereal ask him for a light
Cigarette smoking like a star because
For one never knows how long will last the night

" You may find me up here or there, " she said.
Where blue zebras take tea with tigers burning bright
Such fearful symetry I am afraid
Moments of remembrance within The Book Of Night *
