All at Coo & Co continue through the woods, with Squire and Squiress Squirrel :>)

The imagined illustration shows the dear shoveller ducks waving to the party from the dock, mounds of fresh snow heaped neatly beside them :>)

Old Pilgrims' Way

At the very first blush of light over the skies,
   we start out on the old Pilgrims' Way,
as the Sun rounds to North Earth and starts his grand rise
   and the birds sing to welcome the day;
Squire and Squiress leap lithely from tree limb to limb
   while FT and dear Coo ride the route
by the river, where waterfowl feed, drink, and swim –
   sailing swan, gliding goose, cruising coot.

There are ducks too, including the broad-of-beak flock
   we encountered three Autumns ago,
who wave wings now from where they rest, just by the dock,
   having spent some time shovelling fresh snow;
''Tis the season!' Squire chuckles; 'Quack-quack!' they agree,
   'Yes, we're busy already this year;
good to see you, friend squirrels, with Coo and FT!'
   And the parties exchange Solstice cheer.

'They've made wonderful progress,' the Squiress approves,
   smiling down at the neat little track
that runs smoothly for wheels and for feet and for hooves,
   with the odd picnic spot for a snack;
'Look, the mill!' chirps dear Coo, as this comes into view.
   'Brekkie time!' grins the beady-eyed Squire.
'We'll have porridge and raisins – I've brought quite a few –
   then we'll make for the next stop, Spruce Spire.'

Delightful. I can't wait for the next installment.

This is quite cheery and welcoming, and nice to read on a chilly (vey chilly) late-autumn night. I am imagining lots of early morning sunshine, though cold.
