The cold trepidation of the heart

As the songbird of silenced hearts slowly faded away
The shadow of your smile broke the frozen window inside.
Gentle whispers in the night, bringers of soulful joy
Until the morning laughter belied the outward separation
Angst.  Echoes of goodbye kisses filled the empty void,
Painted the fragile beauty of a crossed threshold.

Until we meet again . . .
