Petals falling

She was a bronze statue
contemplating the moment
as the life blood of the city
flowed by.

A sentinel
guarding all their dreams
as the church bells tolled
beneath a deceitful sky.

And while petals softly fell
in silent echoes of the mind
a field of dying flowers
paid homage to all mankind.

A requiem of sorrow
for every dream that died
that suffocated from the weight
of all the opaque lies.

And so she sat amongst the petals
watching them as they fell
captured in the film of life
trapped inside her rusty shell.

And as her silohette begin to fade
into the celluloid of  life
a final frame burns its image
of a lonley day without respite.

An exceptional piece of work. There is not much more I can say than has not already been said. Will we please just stop and look at ourselves for once, is all I wanted to shout. A powerful and compelling piece. LOVED this to bits. ~Pam

I don't know if you were thinking of any particular statue when writing this beautifully melancholic text...
What I saw before my inner eye was "den Lille Havfrue", the mermaid in Copenhagen, under a winter's first snowfall

This is really good Rodin and Moore would print it and place it on their studio walls good. Not often does anyone write of statues as unwilling participants in lfe.
