After 'hide', with a Bird-e Bonus :>)

observatory

below water level,
we raise our gaze
to Nature

Flamingo Lagoon,
sparkling in setting sun,
bordered by bare ash
rich in rookeries

rooks squawk, raucous
while constructing
new nests

hazels sway, shake
with catkin clusters
maroon and mustard,
wrinkling stockings

white whistlers wheel, while
shelducks skim wandering wavelets,
late rays caressing
their heads, glossy green

and the flamingos
in their preening pinkerie,
distant at first,
due to human clamour

at last, the extroverts exit;
silent, we wait

slowly, flamingo flock creeps closer
one... three... six...
ten... twelve...

spindly legged, sturdy toed,
they dance delightfully
drooping to forage for fish,
then

:>)
snaking narrow nimble necks towards the shifting skies,
waving wondrous windswept wings and winking yellow eyes
:>)

we chuckle;
they cackle,
pinkly pleased

How you lift my heart with these precious descriptions of nature :) Just beautiful, e-bird, love the way you create the scene with your words.

Alliteration replaces rhyme. The gracefulness remains where is was.
