I Hate Poetry!

Sing-song meters,
Jingling rhymes:
O how I do hate formal poetry
Sometimes!

And please don't talk to me about free verse;
It's even worse.

Nancy Sikora
This may be clever, witty and true
But how many sonnets have been written by you?

I should have said "than which" rather than "to which" in the penultimate line.

Those jackboot rhymes, the clod's coarse art,
Do cheapen poetry; it's true.
As do the perfumed reveries
That two-bit mystics foist on you.
Back when Elizabeth was queen
(The First, of course, so long ago,)
The poets of her realm were keen,
Coherent, clever. They could show
A nascent poet how to write,
Release him, thereby, from this night
Of doggerel and club-foot verse.
Ungainly rhymes, to which, I say
Free verse cannot be worse.

Of confines and boundaries speak
In visceral tongue not so meek
Then da dum da da Dee
Da diddledy Dee
And end with a one liner tweak...

A very well composed and structured denunciation of a thing we all love to hate.... Occasionally!

OH POETRY - POETRY - I YET LOVE YOU IN ALL YOUR WAYS!
WE RELATE - WE DO - ALL THE SAME!

A lovable poem! Do I sense rage against the Muse? I like how you throw in the "Sometimes." It's good to give yourself a way out. Poetry is sending you to the time out chair to calm down. But Poetry will always love you. Let it know when you're ready to cooperate.
