kite

the support   the life lines

don't work

and which came first   the broken life lines

or the loneliness   i'm flying a kite

i feel the tug of the line

i see tree tops bending to the wind   but when i look up

i don't see a kite

only the string   disappearing

into an overcast sky

It's a great metaphor. A very sad one though because it does not offer much hope. Kind of like fishing when you have been baited. Here are some smiles to put in your pocket for when you need them :) :) :)

Nicely done, Pony. A well-chosen, well-controlled metaphor.

how subtle and yet power is the emotional pull of this poem because of not only the word usage but the placement! I was transported to a place physically and emotionally as I read this over and over again. This truly saddened me. I felt it deeply. From a poem called, "kite" small letters, power impact--at least to this reader. Kathy

"I see tree tops bending in the wind" ... I love the image, but then it disappears. The kite, like the happiness we want to feel, just out of reach, but it can be seen and felt for moments ... a mirage, a desire, a wish. I love this!
