Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Life goes back to where it must

In the sun-kissed skies we dream a dream
That is never what it seems

Life is mellow, love is true
It will squeeze you till you're blue

I rhyme because we need a song
But when the time comes, can you right a wrong

Or would you dream some more
That it wasn't you that did the gore

Thoughts, they are a mess, they are a muddle
Brown faces stare blankly out of the puddle

Where we go, I know not
But bones are weary of what we fought

She said don't go, he said I must
Now they sit beneath a house of rust

Some things end before they begin
Yet hurt more from the lies we spin
To others, but to ourselves more
And then the heart aches till it's sore

Why do we do the things we do
Is it because we are a fool
Dressed in purple, red and blue
We think we are a fancy crew
Only life was never what we drew

It was hopes and lies and dreams and schemes
That made us get through the night it seems

But when dawn broke l saw anew
That ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Life goes back to where it must

Exactly the same line that struck me as very appropriate right now. A beautiful poem.
