Sort of feels like I'm on standby

Just waiting for the day to come

I don't do anything to bring it on

But I certainly don't do anything

To keep it at bay either, it's strange

It's like I can never conceive again

Of a day that 'life' will become bearable

It's like I have finally resigned myself

To believing that it is just not worth it

The strife, the fight, and no results

Sort of feels like a concrete building

Having toppled over my physical being

Like I'm trapped under the obvious of

What would actually free me once and for all

Still under the rubble despite this realization

So it really feels like I'm on standby

'Cause I really don't know what to do

You convey so well the feeling of being crushed, crushed and trapped, by life, knowing what you seek is just out of reach . . . if only . . . waiting for that day when it becomes bearable . . . on standby, truly.

every word of this poem is honest.

The imagery of a toppled concrete building so powerfully underlines the feelings of a crushing immobility. Leaving me as the reader, with the inescapable wish to dig down into the rubble and reach out with my hands. So difficult to convey in words emotions of this nature but your post renders no doubts of the situation. Thank you for posting.

Nicely done. I like it.

The unsparing accuracy with which the speaker of the poem describes her emotional landscape -- it is both potent and poignant. This reader ardently hopes that the period of "standby" leads to a measure of peace (all the while knowing how difficult that can be) ...

Beautiful writing and images, but so tragically sad.
