Watchful Gods

They say the Gods are always watching us.

Be it in the dawn when we’re out for a walk,
Or in the broad daylight when we’re busy typing emails,
Or in the night when we’re passionately making love,

They say the Gods are always watching us.

From what has been & what it is—
Even when we die they say the Gods will watch us
& drag us out from our coffins sprouting with grass
& stand with us & say: “Rise and walk before me
So that I may realize what you are.”

Placing oneself where the future becomes the present,
They say the Gods are always watching us.
Even when the whole world sleeps in tranquil oblivion,
The Gods are busy eying our bodies & our souls
With an unflinching stare through the keyholes.
