Two girls holding hands walking down the street
Six men gathered on the corner, all way too drunk.
"Hey fag chick" they yell
"You're too young for that fag shit" They gawk and laugh
One reaches out to touch a girl
She keeps walking and puts her head down
She squeezes her girlfriend's hand and says "Baby I'm scared"
Her girlfriend nods and says "I know" her words chilling and cold
Knowing there's nothing she could do or say to protect her lover
The two walk hastily down the street, laughter and profanity follow them
Footsteps trail not too far behind...
The girls take off running down the long dark street
They are followed by six men, all way too drunk.
After everything is said and done, they lay on the ground in a pool of blood.
One girl reaches out to squeeze her girlfriend's cold lifeless hand for the last time
Before she closes her eyes on the world, just as the world closed its eyes on her
Hundreds of eyes on the street that night, not one who cared enough to do something
Now their lives are gone all because nobody was brave enough to speak up.

These are the incidents which make me feel ashamed to call myself a guy and at times, even a human.

A kick-in-the-gut poem. Extremely emphatic.

Theres nothing to say

You show a scene that is too often true. Many care, but don't like to become involved out of fear. And the worst culprit is the hate that has been released. What is wrong with people??
Hate and guns and ignorance is a horrible thing. Let's get out of that way of thinking. We need to look forward at progress and tolerance if we are to compete in this new world. Thank you for sharing this.

I won't say too much except I truly appreciate this poem. And, a lot of people do care, and are brave. Thank you for posting this.
