About being in hospital for a long time when I was young. I don't think I ever did come home.

Come Home Little Man

Oh come home little man
With your insects in a box
Scabs on both your knees
And your uneven dirty socks
A pirate patch upon one eye
Because the other one is lazy
Chewed the roots off clover
Wet the bed and yellow daisy
Please come home little man
Hear his boots upon the stairs
Wipe your feet upon the mat
Come find if someone cares

Like everyone else, I took the last line like a punch to the gut.

Where that nonsense below came from I'll never know. Probably the devil in the iPad autocorrect function. What I had typed was this:

The picture you paint in this piece is pure pathos; with a powerful tension in the last line. Well done!

For this little man, and the manny such as he
I care very much for
Little woman I too care for as much
Those who are a bit older, I care for, give a damn for

I love this little man already. * A very compassionate and loving poem. The last line is enigmatic. So sad.
