Sadness is a puppy
Lost and in the rain
It is the people who have left you
Never to come back again
It is ice cream on the pavement
Cone still in your hand
Mother being angry at you
Father won’t understand
Long Sunday afternoons
That stretch on to forever
When you cannot find a friend
To walk and talk together
It is waking in the morning
Then remembering who you are
After a dream took you away
From underneath your darkened star
