The "international" system of so-called "sovereign nations" has come to threaten our very planet and thus our survival as a species. Jonathon Schell's magnificent book THE FATE OF THE EARTH stated our predicament with great eloquence. Two recent reminders: (1) the world's inability to control the spread of nuclear weapons, and (2) Trump's unilateral withdrawal from the Paris Accords.
