reunion

at a family gathering

not my family

i watch across the room

as a grandfather

and his young granddaughter

have a talk

she is sipping cocoa

this reunion will be their last

he will be gone

before the next   she is sweet

and she is innocent

she will miss him   but not yet

for he is here

the grandpa she loves   and always will

So sad. So poetic.

Poignant and potent. And true.

That snapshot of life, two lives, one lived, one yet to live, yet linked. A lovely moment for them both and the observer.

Like the pebble in the pond, there are waves in my mind created from this scene of past, present, and future all washing over me, reminding me of my own mortality and immortality through my connections to those I love and cherish and who love and cherish me. Sad yet sweet. The beauty of life lived loved and loving.

A deep truth here. The granddaughter doesn't know about death, but the grandfather is saying good bye. So sad, and so human. Very nice flow. Made me sad. :(
