a strong woman

we got into it too quickly

before

we get into it too deeply   she

backs off   says   this is goodbye

her eyes shutter

go flat   the light is extinguished

all expression drains from her face

i am gone to her

something in the past

the hurt   though   in her body language

in her soul

will never go away   i know her that well

but she does it   i couldn't   wouldn't

would ruin both our lives

The memories always live on, stored away in that special place in the heart, but it is important to know when is a time to end something that will bring more heartache than happiness in the end. Who knows? Perhaps time can change things ... but usually not. A very introspective poem.
