(As simple and easy, as our love is.)

In The City of Juarez

When I first saw you
I didnít know what to think

My heart was still too tender
I wasnít ready for love

It was my first morning jogging
In the Great City of Juarez

The air smelled of gasoline and freshly cut grass
Of beer and iron.

I had been away from the city for too long
Smelling only jungle and the salt of the sea

My heart burning with the adventures
The friends, the food and drink

The multiplicity of event the city promised.
People come to Mexico to be bad

To do the things they couldn't do at home
Smoke cigarettes in public, have sex, make their way in the world.

But when you looked at me
I felt I was in a dream

How could you be
so handsome
so irresistible
so Intense
so perfect?

When you looked at me that morning
Stopping to rest under the mango tree

The leaves dancing shadows over us
Your eyes were so intense.

They spoke of a life
that I had never known before

When you look at me
I feel I am living a dream.

This is beautiful like a symphony how the poem flows in couplets until that marvelous crescendo beginning with so. I could write a thesis about this poem. i love it.

This is so good. I like the "mango tree" reference. It must be hard to be in a city where people come to do bad things. But kismet can hit us anywhere.

This is so beautiful.
It has the tenderness, the awe, the delightful touch of vulnerability which accompanies new love.
The narrative is rich and full of excellent observation and response offering/catching light and shadow.
A faceted jewel in portrayal.
