This poem makes no pretensions to even intermediate quality. It's just something I dashed off to see if I could write a villanelle "on demand," as it were!

Villanelle at 1 a.m.: A Challenge

As Frampton sang, baby, I love your ways.

I love your brash jokes and your wicked smile:

you make my heart melt; you gladden my days.

The Stopped Clock jukebox relentlessly plays

classic rock ballads, and the beer tastes vile:

but I come here because I love your ways.

As you bring booze to the habitués

(each day behind the bar you walk a mile),

you make my heart melt, you gladden my days.

With one hand, you can balance barroom trays

laden with dozens of drinks. Yes, you've got style!

As Frampton sang, baby, I love your ways.

Your face entices and your eyes amaze,

and when you dance to Patsy, you beguile!

You make my heart melt, you gladden my days.

Before your feet, I strew petals of praise:

you outshine any empress of the Nile!

As Frampton sang, baby, I love your ways:

you make my heart melt; you gladden my days.

Oh, I'm terrible at form poetry. But I'm feeling like I want to try. Can't promise anything, I'll try anyway :) I like yours - thanks.

Bravo! I like, nay, prefer to type '' off the cuff '', poetry. Just how it comes in the mind. I gather Walt witman, change from poetrey, to prose, and back, to and through. Efotlesly. A readr said of my work, that in reading my work, is reminded of Walt Witman. So he set poetry free. Write as the it comes to you, rinvent poetry, as you will it! NOT as dicktaited to write!
