Grass Snake

With stealth in the stillness of night,
Entering my wounded heart
From another wounded heart
Across space and time.

Like a grass snake,
Tired after long crawling,
Coiling your cold body
Against my warm heart,
Imprinting the dorsal scales,
Letting your poison slowly steer.

Sliding across my body soundlessly,
Pausing at the window of my soul,
Raising your head,
Peering withinó

Ushered by the secrets and dreams,
Dancing like breath in frosty air.

You hiss in the voice
That can only be yours,
With the swirl and swish
That my heart adores.

I know you
And your serpentine mysteries
By the litter and longing
Your crimson crawling leaves
In its wake.

Your keep the metaphor going nicely here :)

I love it! The metaphor is great and sticks through the entire poem. But I especially love the first stanza. Great work!

Compelling metaphor, much enjoyed.
