A mite pedestrian, but I needed the exercise.

Villanelle at 3 a.m. (Challenge)

Coffee's the cure for writer's block.

Others might scorn a cup of joe --

I thrive on its reviving shock.

I'm sitting here at three o'clock

Without a word to say. Oh no!

Coffee's the cure for writer's block.

It makes me sing and dance and talk.

It gives my nerves get-up-and-go!

I thrive on its reviving shock.

Standoffish Muses, won't you knock

On my front door, come round and show

Your faces, cure my writer's block?

Why must you mercilessly mock,

Virtual page whiter than snow?

I need caffeine's reviving shock!

I haven't managed to unlock

The bardic dam, but this I know:

Coffee's the cure for writer's block;

I thrive on its reviving shock.

You've taken liberties, sir, but the end result excuses them.

Dear Tom,

All the ground you have covered filtered to me in an instant and I feel like a born-again barista!

May your cup runneth over for many years to come.

Cheers,

Chris

You manage a good poem with writer's block and the elixir, coffee. Nicely done.

Writer's block is discouraging. We're always hoping for
the next great story to write about. Well done, Tom.
