October Again

Audacious autumn, inspiratrix
of poems and kisses, of dithyrambs,
gusts of frost, wind-nipped acolytes

shouting huzzah! to the rush and blush.
Coffee, chamomile, cocoa, cognac,
heaps of leaves, veined in spent vim,

tinted by chill to postcard brilliance,
equinox of oaks, boneyard canticle,
bluster flourishing through the month,

gutters of rustling yesterwishes,
cider and football, cinnamon sweaters,
pumpkin porches, ruddy orchards,

getting late early, hints of winter,
scaresome beneath the shivering stars.

Yup. Cold slithering in. Snow shovels soon.
Not my favorite season.
