two poems of love

at home   working   a

knock

on the door   tom comes up

i'm at my desk   he sits

on the bed

i'm listening to elston

gunn   he picks up

my guitar

plays a jorma kaukonen

song   tom   like me

is living

the gay way   guys guys

girls girls   that's how it

works out

we could try it on   but

don't   i can't imagine   it

but now

as i write it down   i am

imagining   it   i can't

make it work

am i on my back or knees

but we don't   we talk   he plays

i wonder

why is he here   i think

he wants to try it on

i wonder

why me   a kind of love   maybe

~

linear   life is   here to there

zoom

get up   go   go some more

go to bed   repeat

no curvature

in the process   no more

than the tracks    the tunnel

and glory be

oh   but the day   surely

that is 'round about   circular

'round and 'round

get paid   go 'round and 'round

get nowhere   fling bits of accomplishment

mean nothing

no thing at all   pay the rent

buy coffee   linear

circular

keats on the green   chin on hand

no   the epitome of mundane

unhappy

but for love   she says   gotta love

WELL DONE JIM, YOU MAKE IT SO NICE SHOW US ABOUT LOVE AND MUSIC AND HOW HE COME TO YOU AND SIT ON THE BED. I LOVE IT.

You have written a very interesting combination in these two poems of love. One is happy and hopeful. The other turns hectic, linear, circular. There's lots I want to say, but let each person see in it what they want. I like it.

Imaginative then restless, you have made this a great combination, love it.

I like the way the poem progresses from the first part, which is all bright and happy, to the second part, which is full of existential nothingness. The transition to me was seamless, and that's what I enjoyed.
