and here you are   fifty-some

years later

beautiful   but no babe at the breast

now   a glass of wine   in

your hand

day-drinking   you say   what next

we reminisce a little   catch up

double mastectomy

mother gone   father gone   both of us

mutual losses   mutual shared

puzzlement

over the nature of depression   and

children   with it   and us   barely

recognizable   but i remember you when

I enjoyed this soft and beautifully crafted poem. Your poems have a calming effect, I would choose to read them at night.

Unsentimentally beautiful. A fine modern sonnet.
