You read the science textbooks, and it seems that
Everything is fine. The highest form of life is us.
We think. We learn. We change our minds, and
How we analyze the world. We're the smartest ones
Of textbooks, less so in the flesh. The average
Human mind is blank. This person willingly accepts
The views of all authorities. He doesn't question
Anything, and, should a gap appear between what's
Said to be and how things are, this human will reject
His senses. Dogma triumphs over data; ancient
Prejudices prove superior to tolerance. A word from
Someone on TV, and armies of allegedly sophisticated
Simians surge into streets to rape and murder infidels.
Do humans think? They'd rather not. Is there something
Which separates the thoughtless machinations of a
Rotofir from those of one with arms and legs, whose
Ear's attuned to propaganda radio? It's hard to argue
That there is. This self-proclaimed most wondrous
Creature is, in fact, a hollow shell, another strand of
DNA which winds and replicates without a reason.
There you go. This is how the world works. The
Textbooks say we're something special. Nature
Says we're not.

A very well written observation of we humans. It provokes thought and lends itself to debate on the differences that separates us from the rest of the animal world.
I enjoyed reading this piece, thanks for sharing.

Brilliant work! Reminded me of Bukowski's "The Genius of the Crowd."
