Just One, Ma?

Every Christmas eve
My kiddies begged,
"Can we open a gift
Just one, Ma, just one?"
"No," I'd answer
You have to wait
For Christmas morn"

Every Christmas eve
Seems it was the same thing
Throughout their youth
They'd ask, "Just one, Ma
Can we open just one?"
Again, I'd answer,
"Nope, not till
Christmas morn"

One Christmas eve
In their teenage years
Out tug-of-war
Started again...
"Just one, Ma
Can we open just one?"
"OK," I said
"Open just one"
And they chuckled,
"No, Ma... We'll wait
Till Christmas morn"
