From a few years ago when we had our home and friends and family visited at Christmas

An evening prayer of thanks

They've all gone now
Mid embraces kisses and laughter
The kitchen cleaned
The family room rearranged

Our friends have lived here today
Warming our home in
unimagined unexpected ways
From riotous noisy exchange of news
To pensive silent communal calm
Before the fire in a darkened room

A comforting afterglow
Surrounds the silence of the den
I recall the warmth peace and joy
This bright bouquet of people bring

As I write these words
Of grateful thanks
To them and God for the love
Felt this day.

A lovely and well presented memory. What struck me as I read it was its timelessness. When humans are being good to each other, they have been getting together like this since we sat around fires at the mouths of caves.
