1971. This was a beautiful night. Only 3 families lived on this cross road. Even kid
across road came out to sled that night.

The Night

I was kinda restless
One sparkling winter night
I looked out the window
Everything seemed just right

For our road was icy
No sand to bind a sled
This Holiday weekend
We were still up
No thoughts of going to bed

And our road was icy
I could see it from our hill
The night was sweetly quiet
The clouds a-hidden still

I phoned my friends up the road
"We can't pass up a night like this
Tote your kiddies down real fast
Grab your sleds... and his"

"For our road is icy
The sky is clear and bright
And cars don't travel this road
In the middle of the night"

Down the road
Our friend's all trooped
Lord- what a time we had
Sledding down our icy road
Not one sled runner bad

Some whizzed down
Beside each other
Some whizzed down alone
The critters that couldn't
Steer too good
Whizzed into the snow banks
That had grown...

The kiddies were a-screeching,
"I'm coming, come what may!"
And the men hollered back,
"Get that deadbeat outta the way!"

Oh, we had so much fun
We were a happy springtime bunch
But maybe some thought-
Our wits had gone out to lunch

But our road was icy
And the night was brightly done
Oh, you should have been there
To join us in our fun...

(We stayed out till about one or
two in the morning. A beautiful night to remember)

What a beautiful memory! You made me smile as I saw the scene in my mind. Spontaneous fun is the best
