The Moon in my Facebook

The moon rises inside the white screen,

Against the bluish range of hills.

Your photos, your status, they show

Bliss. Another felicitous union with life.

A fresh beginning with your handsome

Fat boyfriend, a new breath in this world,

As you like to post. A good job, a car, a bungalow

Await somewhere on the horizon.

I remember what you used to say—

An iron bowl won’t ever break.

In your photos you walk on the Juhu beach,

You write your names in the sand,

Draw hearts and butterflies, the waves

Come rolling in, they wash the present.

You pick a pebble, green like an algae egg,

And throw it in the ocean with a rough calculus

Of oblivion. You move away, you find your way back,

Like a tide. Facebook heaves an euphoric sigh.

Thank you for your updates, they sweeten

My soul. Thank you for your photos, they cool

The fever off my brow. The green pebble

Will come to me in another world.

How did I ever miss this gem of a poem. The emotions that come through these words reached deep inside my heart full of memories of my own. Your execution is excellent. You keep getting better and better. Great job!

Amazing. You're getting better and better everyday.

This is excellent in so many ways—form, content, execution. The images come naturally, they are vivid and unique, all yours. It is a wonderful poem.

The conceit of the green pebble is stunning. The final line almost breaks my heart.

Wonderful, Bibek! I cherish especially the description of the boyfriend in the third couplet. But many fine touches in this well-made poem.
