Ice storm of 1998

The Tree

The tree stood strong and tall
Then the freezing rain came
Rain that turned into ice
But the tree stood just the same

For days the tree withstood
The rain, the ice, the cold
It was strong and stood tall
And was not so very old

Too many days the ice attacked
The tree that stood with pride
And with ice heavy upon its heart
The tree bent low, and died
