For Ashe

A Proximate Approximate

I turn from J toward Haley as I turned
From her to Ariel. I do because J's
Never near. She's always but a brilliant
Flash. Too soon, she's just a memory
Which fades as months and years go by.
The love that glows around it also
Fades. My life goes dark and cold,
And I seek a new source of warmth.
I'll see J in the fall, I think, and, when I do,
My local lover will be overshadowed
For a week, perhaps a month or two,
But then the one I love the most
Will be a picture in a frame, and I will
Need somebody else to wrap me
In her arms.

Thank you for the dedication. Lawrence. A proximate approximate is sometimes the best we can do. A happy poem, I think. :)
