Happy Anniversery, love! by Ann Wood

HOLIDAY

When it's over after all the guests
the toes of the noisy river,
infinitely quiet and infinitely simple
I will pick up a cup and say to you:
"Cheers, my dear, for everything bright,
as a spark to be even -
a single star in the sky
with the traffic light burning.
Cheers, my dear, for everything dark,
even as the universe is it!
Perhaps his cliffs were steep
our celebration would not have risen.
It is not difficult but easy to destroy
human in the human soul.
And she would not reveal her own beauty
without the smudge of ugly things.
Cheers, my dear, for all the nights
and all the days, both bad and good,
who come in and in which they all
we will shine with you until we burn! "
