Empty is a sound, you know
It rings inside you loud and hollow
But it is not on a music scale
It can scratch a soul and softly wail
Tuning up for the day ahead
Passing images, eyes closed in bed
So much can fill up our lives
But not emptiness, it only deprives

Emotionally, this was like an ache, because it really touches the painful spot. So true that emptiness has a sound! I love silence, when I can think, dream, write, plan.

But emptiness! Impossible to do anything of value. It DOES deprive. Exquisitely and precisely put.

Short and fantastic. My emptiness opens the path for my anxiety to set in. I hope we can both fill the space with something better.

a poem on emptiness is so nice to read. sometimes emptiness really gets to us but a poem always helps. To identify that this is exactly how it is. i get it in the evenings, sometimes but not the mornings.

Equating emptiness to a scratching sound is just right. It's a void that isn't empty, but full of ill-ease.

Bravo! When there is an emptiness. Then that emptiness, calls to be filled? That filling depends on the choices made?

Emptiness is the worst. I like the poem and how well you capture the feeling of emptiness. The last line says so much.
