Because saying good bye would have been impossible.

Still Looking

I walked past houses

Getting further from the water

I walked ten steps, ran ten

You'd be at the next corner or the next

Any moment

And every cat was you

The houses stopped

I looked out into the darkness

I'd gone too far.

The most minimalist of well selected words creates the most vivid pictures filled with emotion. At least, I saw it all and felt it too. Nicely done !

The way you have written this perfectly matches what you were writing about. I also like it.

This is so beautiful!

But why use 'I was at the end of the town' when you've already given another poignant picture for the same in the previous 'The houses stopped'

I like this. It reminds me of a surrealist story by Sakutaro Hagiwara called "Cat Town." It's a journey as well.
