My husband Paul was a career military man, leaving on many tours of duty. Since his retirement he has had open heart surgery and had to be resuscitated twice. He has also been diagnosed with a blood cancer but is doing very well. We celebrate our 46th wed

He's Been Leaving

He's been leaving
since we met
But he hasn't
left me yet
Yes he has
gone away
But he hasn't
gone to stay
He came to pass
and then return
Bringing his essence
for which I yearn
His heart quit twice
but he did not
undisturbed grass
covers his plot
He takes me in
with his breath
And won't exhale me
until death

Very effectively written. Compelling! I think the short lines serve this poem well.
