A Benefit to Sobriety?

After all these months of drinking recklessly,
Of being drunk before I've had my evening meal,
Of staggering to bed each night to wake up
In the morning not remembering if I had eaten,
Not remembering the things I said to whom,
Or what I wrote, I've chosen to redeem myself.
In the process, I have learned that there's
A void within my life, a hole that is its center,
And I have no way of filling it. The alcohol
Can blur its edges. Staying sober only lets
Me see how large it is.

First, to see how large it is, then knowing how to and filling the hole. Nicely written.

Ashe The PoetBay support member heart!
Excellent use of words to describe what is indeed a hole that needs filling, which is the reason most people who drink have. Very well written poem with a strong message.
