I Can Talk to Anybody But You

"Radiation again. Can you stop by?"

Bloop!

"See you in twenty."

I am propped up in bed
I retch into a plastic bag

He lets himself in
He is carrying an Ensure

Beads of sweat cover my body like pearls
Still, he slides in beside me

Gangly arms reach for sheets
Gangly arms reach for me

Bloop!

"I had a great time last night."

Bloop!

"When can I see you again?"

Bloop!

"Hello?"

Bloop!

"I got these shoes 20% off, do you want a pair?"

Bloop!

"I think he's seeing someone else."

Bloop!

"Tell me he isn't seeing someone else."

Bloop!

"I'm leaving the country to teach English. Let's meet up this week!"

Bloop!

"Practice is moved to Wednesday, can you make it?"

Bloop!

"Your order arrived. Type STOP to cancel."

Bloop!

"Did I scare you off?"

Bloop!

"I gave him years of my life and now I'm alone I can't breathe oh god who could he be seeing?"

Bloop!

"I'm sorry I blew up at you. You're still my best friend."

Bloop!

"There's a tattoo expo, do you want to go?"

Bloop!

"Open mic on Friday, you singing, lady?"

Bloop!
Bloop!
Bloop!

He presses a damp cloth against my forehead
And smooths my hair behind my ears

"You're popular."

I close my eyes and nestle my face into his neck.

"I'm coping."

Bloop!
