Happiness Is

Happiness is a handful of pills tucked neatly into boxes, morning and night, taken in like the gospel

Happiness is roadwork in the morning, bag work in the evenings and weights before bed

Happiness is reaching out to old friends, closing your eyes while you sip lemongrass tea on the couch and hearing all about where they've been, and what they think of when they read "it's worth it" every morning on their phone screen, a needed reminder

Happiness is putting an end to how ashamed you felt for being perceived as needy and instead being proud for falling in love so hard-- for not wanting to give up, for unapologetically fighting for a future with the person you loved the most

Happiness is finally getting the closure you need, knowing they don't love you the same way and it being okay because you love yourself

Happiness is finally falling asleep without needing noise to quiet your mind

Happiness is moving on

Happiness is saying yes to a drunken night with someone who looks at you with softness you never thought you'd see again

Happiness is the silver you can only see when you put your hair up

Happiness is the tattoo on your arm, big and colorful and meaningful

Happiness is a cappuccino protein shake with half a frozen banana, flaxseed, and peanut butter

Happiness is working at that job you busted ass to get

Happiness is playing video games with your puppy in your lap

Happiness is knowing you'll get another shot at it: the house, the partner, the baby, the family to call yours, who won't give up on you

Happiness is enough confidence to wake up every morning, still fighting, still improving, with every day an opportunity to heal

Happiness is here

Ashe The PoetBay support member heart!
Best description of happiness I have seen, especially because you radiate the feeling. A strong and raw poem. Excellent!

ken d williams The PoetBay support member heart!
As we say - happiness - is happiness is!
As is in what found
As like meeting a stranger - who smiles to
And with - in an instant - find both talking
Shearing a laugh - shearing oh such more
On parting - saying to each other sweat words
On parting
Though you two will not meet again - neither
Strangers - now Friends well met!
