The End of My Beginning

Across a broken toothed forest
Adjacent to a polluted stream
I ran without going anywhere
Such is the property of a dream

I called your name to tomorrow
But you replied from yesterday
Then the people from your valley
Suddenly joined me in the melee

Your lovers lost in histories past
All dressed in hyperbolized grey
First standing aligned so formally
Then firing their attributes away

Like a line of Napoleonic soldiers
Knowing they cannot win the day
But they battled on in their bravado
Killed by what your charms convey

Dawn turned into coldest morning
The birds, bedazzled took to flight
Progressively on the whole I knew
Something now was not quite right

I needed to see a recent calendar
To find a better fix on when I was
Perchance to get the world aligned
If for no other reason, just because

As usual you looked down on me
I could hear you smirking on wing
Then I awoke to a voiced ringtone
Saying it is the end of my beginning
