Her owners - noticed - something in her - about her
Decided to teach her - educated her
Phyllis blossomed - she had been given her owners name
Her owners family name - they later freed her - she retained their name
Phillis became fluent in Latin and Greek
Wrote poetry - at first reading - a Christan!
BUT - Phyllis - had a dig at - Christianity!
Phillis - is said to be the first - African-American poet!
Some may differ - as Philis - were born in Africa - BORN FREE!
