Not Me Today

Looking from my window
The day is rather bleak
The sun has been hiding
It has been all this week
And birds love the grass
The ground is nicely wet
They jump about excited
For worms they can get
And the rust on the gates
Tells me it won't go away
You can paint over things
But they will not go away
You can bury things deep
Until comes this rainy day
When the birds will dance
In their strange funny way
There is always a winner
But it is just not me today

I think of Thomas Hardy as I read this poem. And yes, I do intend praise!
