Synthetic Hubris

Synthetic Hubris

“What's in the injection you give?”
Asked the patient floating on air
“It is known as synthetic hubris”
Said the nurse without any care
“For if we must live a future life
It is a necessity to drive your soul
Making the world turn pallid grey
For you to become silent and cold
.
Business destroyed all the farmers
Intelligence dances with the inept
But we now have small blue caplets
Made of any protein that is still left
Tomorrow’s windows are fine again
For all days are just exactly the same
Mice grew eight legs not to be caught
And no-one remembers your name”
.
“Leave me be” the man said in reply
“There is nothing now for me here
I can see the emptiness in your eyes
Things you can’t bring yourself to fear
Allow a man his quietness for death
Surely that cannot ever be denied?”
“I follow procedures” was the answer
So inside his body lived and spirit died
