Would That I Were A Bird

Would that I were a bird
Having feathers for hands
Flying above my emptiness
That no-one ever understands
Strong winds all within my power
To fly from fear and on sadness swoop
Not just this foolish ground stuck human
Jumping through a shiny plastic people hoop

Maybe as writers we can fly
Fly as the fancy takes us
Free as a bird!

If I were a bird, I'd be ever so bold!
I'd take life on life's terms.
And just like Martin Luther of old,
I'd be on a Diet of Worms.
