The next prelude in Claude Debussy's Book II brings to mind our local park.
Here, since Sunday 12th May, three of this year's four cygnets have disappeared :>( but the remaining cygnet is still with us :>) (co-co-COO)

Undine; or Song for Solo :>)

In this park of two lakes ringed by whispering trees
   either side of a neat tarmac path,
yellow iris scent wafts through the middle-May breeze
   and a cygnet enjoys a warm bath;
and the water flows through his fine feathers of grey
   while his parents look on and look on,
for his brothers and sisters were taken away –
   Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday, all gone.

In the depths of the lakes there are pike, people warn,
   while the sides might be home to dark mink,
and the management plan of the council yields scorn
   as the cygnet enjoys a cool drink;
and the water flows through his fine feathers of grey
   while his parents look on and look on,
for his brothers and sisters were taken away –
   Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday, all gone.

Come the Wednesday, Carol the Swan-Lady came
   very early to watch from the banks,
and the cygnet was safe, Solo, that is his name,
   cheeping some sound that might have been, 'Thanks!'
and the water flows through his fine feathers of grey
   while his parents look on and look on,
for his brothers and sisters were taken away –
   Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday, all gone.

Every morning since Wednesday, Carol's returned,
   other swan-ladies with her the while,
watching, waiting, yet nothing of pike or mink learned,
   just dear Solo, beak open in smile;
and the water flows through his fine feathers of grey
   while his parents look on and look on,
for his brothers and sisters were taken away –
   Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday, all gone.

A heartfelt verse for the cygnets that have disappeared. The salience of prosody, the way you vary the beats alternatively, is quite commendable. I'm always in awe of poets who can write so beautifully.
