Thatís Where Iíll Meet You

Down by the river where the tree roots paddle
Along the flight path of pastel winged dragonflies
Mud on your shoes and your jumper full of burrs
Thatís where I'll meet you when stars are awake

Over the bridge that has the sandshoe hanging
Around the anthill where we held Stephen crying
Across the little dribble thinking itís a roaring river
Thatís where I'll meet you when stars are awake

Through the bushes that always flew in your face
Tangled in vines where we lost all your tennis balls
On the horizon is your father pointing to his watch
Thatís where I'll meet you when stars are awake

Skip through the dawn sung out by clever magpies
Wiping your shoes on Mrs Crayís bushy brown mat
Run back home or theyíll catch you like a zebra finch
Thatís where I'll meet you when breakfast is ready

Well done, and your remembrances have your local flavor (the magpie and zebra finch) which make it exotic to those of us on the other side of the planet.

i love this. Nostalgia, sadness, and hope. You have hit just the right note on all of the emotions, and plenty of beautiful remembered images. The lines are so beautifully balanced, and so easy to read, that the images now belong to your reader, too. That is a sign of a powerfully expressed piece of writing.

I thank you for it.

- Marie.

Nice use of refrain (in your poem)! It reverberates and lingers in the brain like an echo.

This is a charming piece, Friend D. You present a feast of images, not least with the 'flight path of pastel winged dragonflies' and 'the sandshoe hanging / Around the anthill'. Members of Coo & Co very much enjoyed exploring this world :>)

The poem also charms with its medley of memories. These are very moving; as such, they render the images even more beautiful. We applaud :>)
