Writhes, golden snake, sleek and coiled.
Yawns, bloat-bellied dove,
stretches its wings, craves sleep.
Barks in the cold, fox on the prowl.
Bays, bloodhound, at bats and steeples.
Croons disconsolate lullabies
to creatures in lairs and nests.
Plays with fingerpaint, fidgety child.
Chases risk and thrill, alleycat.
Splashes, impertinent frog
in a lake thronged with starfish.
Yearns for its love, aloof, remote,
the chill and churning ocean.
