subtle doubter of a thomas

    i dylan'd my syllables
onto a mathpaper pad
& the beached cranes of winthrop
knew all my sonnets by heart

        then ginsberg & creeley
knocked over my tower of toothpicks
whitman evangelised doc williams prescribed
& i plied prosodies of breath & bravado
        for a brief season

at 22 i turned to merton
i notebooked my vespers & vigils
in pajamas on the parental couch
as the cable channel for old movies
        tracy&hepburned till daybreak

        i goatfooted my way
    through dejection & unemployment
milktongued the spondees
of shakespeare & keats & owen
        twinbirded rhymes of dickinsonian bent

        i could never write lunchlyrics
refused to take the tennis court oath
slept soundly through the morning of the poem
but i could kenneth-koch my lies & dreams

        while a trillion exuberant stars

        blushed pink as springtime

Thatís quite an eclectic stable of influencers! The convoluted journey of a poet of note! Well said, Thomas.
