Sitting here thinking of the inadequacies of a quest for love based on the assumption of a lover satisfying our own needs and wants. The context of me versus we versus you

Love; What If

Can we apply our self paradigm

To how and why we are loved

Or is that the province of those

Who love us as they see fit

Our expectations of love and care

May be quite at odds with those

Who wish to love us as they see us

Far from our sense of who we are

Is the act of loving releasing all our

Sense of what we feel we need

And in doing so become mendicant

Trusting with grace all that is given

And in so doing fill ourselves

With new gifts of insight beyond

Our understanding blossoming

Within us as a miraculous garden

Whose fruits provision our souls

To satiation beyond our dreams

Submerging self in the bounty

Provided solely by our lovers

Of course the reverse would be true

I believe that you're right. The you you think that you are is not the one your lover loves.

Unless, of course, that Lover is the Beloved, in which case all is given. However, within a human context we will only get glimpses of the Beloved. “Our hearts are restless, O Lord, until they rest in thee.”. As St. Augustine noted. But this is an absolutely beautiful poem! Thank you so much for sharing it.
