This poem was based upon the Buddha's teaching: (If you cannot find a good companion to walk with, walk alone, like an elephant roaming the jungle. It is better to be alone than to be with those who will hinder your progress.)

Poems for meditation

Elephant

When I woke up
I lived as if every day I was beginning to survive.
When I could walk
I moved to say to myself if surely, I was alive.

I lived like an elephant.
Roaming in the jungle, walking alone
Being my own complement
Leaving my fears and complaining I could’ve known.
Reckoning what words, I had to say.
Without a roof where I was sure to stay.

When I could love
I didn’t see the sun, moon, or clouds above.
Breaking the rules… I could never think of
When I could decide
Everybody was concluding about my about-face.
I couldn’t handle it with words, but I embraced my grace.

I walked like an elephant.
Wandering in the jungle, walking alone
Defending my complement
Leaving my tears and regrets I could’ve known.
Counting my mistakes, I had to hide.
Without a roof where I lost my inside.

I wake up in the middle of the jungle.
Living more than I could struggle.
Loving my self-portrait of love.
I walk with no approval to be dead.
Cutting the rose that was never red.
Hunting the peace when I never saw it like a dove.

I live like an elephant.
Roving in the city, walking alone.
Building my complement.
Leaving my scars and wounds I could’ve known.
Learning the lessons, I never expected to live.
Without a roof, I never have to give.
When it was not my will
Though I have grown
I cannot stand still.
