Someone asked me today, 'What's your process?' Well, it's mostly digging out old drafts and having the courage to finish them.

Stone

And as he put his arm around me one last time, I realised that this is not my last heartbreak.

I am the stepping stone

I am the missing sock

I am the pebble that got caught in your shoe on an otherwise perfect day

I am the draft you left untitled

I am the worm the early bird catches

I am the grains of sand you dust off when you're home from a beach vacation

I am the milk that spilt over

I am the punctured tire

I am a raindrop in the ocean

I am the alarm clock you snoozed one too many times

With a lump in my throat, I wait on the porch for the sun to rise.

Well, I'm glad you did finish this one. It's a very humble poem, with a hopeful end. What could be more affirming than the promise of the sun coming up every morning?
